OUR STORY

Vesturkantur was founded in 2008 and started in the tourism industry in 2014 under the name Hrimland. First by renting 3 cottages in Hálönd in Hlíðarfjall mountain about 2 km from the ski resort but still only about 5 km away from Akureyri city center.

These Cottages  have become a big favorite for both Icelanders and tourists from abroad both in winter times when you can ski from the ski resort to your cottage not to mention the northen lights , and summer times with the views and the midnight sun.

2018 was a big year for Hrimland by this time the cottages where up to 8 and in december that year Hrimland Apartmnets opened in Strandgata 29 next to the city center.

Hrimland Apartments was about 2 years in the making and is 15 apartments, 10 for 4 persons and 5 for 2 persons down by the city center overlooking the sea.   We still wanted to react to the demand so in December 2021 the cottages where uo to 12 and we will get another 4 in the summer 2022 so by the end of the year 2022 Hrimland will have 16 cottages in Hálönd and 15 apartments in Strandgata.

We have come quite a long way in 8 years from being able to welcome 24 guests in 2014 to 178 guests in 2022.

Responsible Tourism for Hrimland

Environmental policy

Vesturkantur recognize their environmental responsibility and we use guidelines to follow our goals. We have a strict policy about reducing  and recycling waste. The company has a goal to reduce energy and water usage by using only LED lighting in our houses.

All of our staff are aware of the commitment and are properly trained to follow the companies policy regarding the environment. We inform our customers that we take good care of the environment and expect them to help us doing so.

Our main goal is to cut out all use of plastic material and by the year 2020 we plan to have our accomodation plastic free.

In june 2019 our first annual report will be published on our website where the public can see what we have achieved.

Safety and regulations

We make sure that our staff explains all details about security and how to use our property safely so we can prevent accident and all danger.

We make sure that we offer all services that has been promised and advertised on our webpage so the customers always knows what he is buying.

Staff

We respect our staff rights and the company does everything to create a positive and comfortable work environment. Our staff has the skills to deal with different situations that might come up.

Local community

Proudly located in the capital of the North we are happy to purchase all goods and services from the locals. Our goal is to take part in the cultural and sporting society in Akureyri. We are happy to create jobs for the locals as well.
